Synopsis: 

Rudra Chatterjee spends his life refusing social conventions. He defies his father's ambition to see him become an engineer and decides a sex change.

Rituparno Ghosh is a Bengali director born in Calcutta in 1963. He has won 12 times the Indian National Film Award. He inspired other directors such as Mithaq Kazimi who made his own version of "Raincoat" in English.
He first worked in the advertising field, starting directing feature films only in 1992. He won his first award for best film in 1995 with "Unishe April". He thereafter directed 19 films, gaining international fame. He dies on May 30th 2013 of a heart attack in his native city. Rituparno Ghosh is considered today an icon of the Indian gay community. He is one of the rare Indian celebrities to have publicly claimed his homosexuality.
